The pool of ATP, adenosine triphosphtae is kept high inside a cell. This is because this nucleotide is not only involved in the synthesis of nucleic acid, but it is the energy currency of the cell also. It is used by the cell to perform all its metabolic activities like synthesis of complex polymeric substance like starch, cellulose, movement of cell organelles, pumping of ions against concentration gradient, movement of chromosomes during cell division etc.

Other nucleotides, GTP, CTP, TTP and UTP are maintained at low concentration in a cell.
