You perform transduction experiments to determine the genetic map of four genes: bio, met, lac, and pro. You find that met and pro are cotransduced at a frequency of 80%, met and lac at a frequency of 50%, lac and pro at a frequency of 40%, pro and bio at a frequency of 30%, and lac and bio at a frequency of 10%. What is the order of the four genes?

A)lac bio met pro

B)pro lac met bio

C)met lac bio pro

D)lac met pro bio

E)bio met lac pro

Answer #1

Option (c) is correct .

Order of the genes is given below:–

Met <lac < bio < pro.

From co- transduction frequencies given in the question,we can conclude the gene order.

In gene mapping, there is inverse relationship between co- transduction frequency and gene distance.

# the greater the cotransduction frequency, the closer two genetic markers or genes are and the shorter is the map distance and vice-versa.

This is a Hfr mapping question and I'm completely lost here Basically the bonus is a puzzle. It is based on mapping done with 4 different Hfr strains. I've given you the minutes that that it takes for several of the markers on the map to transfer in as determined by Hfr mapping. The start times of transfer during conjugation matings with F- strains carrying auxotrophic, fermentation, and erythromycin- sensitivity markers were determined for each Hfr strain, as listed. A. Using the times for transfer of each marker, draw a unified chromosome map of E coli, showing the order and relative distances...
