What are the current practices for inclusion of each group ageism and disability in the workplace?
What are the barriers for inclusion of ageism and disability?
Answer= As per the government, in order to include the aging and disabled population in the workplace, it is important for the employers to make the required arrangements so that these individuals can perform their work without much of the difficulties. ADA has restricted any sort of discrimination on the basis of age while the American with Disability Act has prohibited any sort of discrimination with the disabled individuals on the job. The employer makes the required change in the office premise and the job itself to accommodate the limitations of these individuals. This can include change or modification in the facility of the office, providing assistance to these individuals or allocating those jobs which do not create any major challenge for these individuals.
Answer= The main barriers with the inclusion of aging individuals in the workplace are related to the stereotyping of these people as orthodox, unskilled, limited innovative nature, physically feeble, inflexible and dull. Due to these stereotyping, these aging individuals feel discriminated and in fact, even the co-workers treat them with a certain view
On the other side, the main issue with the disabled individuals is also related to the similar type of stereotyping that includes the inflexibility, incapability of doing normal work, a burden on the resources of the organization, lack of innovativeness and stiff
Apart from stereotyping, the other barrier in the inclusion of these individuals is also related to the feasible accommodation that has to be made by the organization. This puts an extra burden on the organizational resources and thus the organization tries to avoid recruiting these individuals
