Q: Would the utilization of SSD as RAM cause any adverse side effects to the long term use of the drive overall?

Ans:

For clarity of understanding I am typing the answer:

FULL FORMS: SSD: SOLID STATE DRIVE / SOLID STATE DEVICE /SOLID SATE DISK /

SEMICONDUCTOR STORAGE DEVICE

RAM: RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY

Of course long term usage of SSD will cause some effects, the list of effects given below:

1.      Slow of Accessing time

2.      Speed of RAM reduces

3.      When power fails persistence of data capacity reduces

4.      Decrease the performance of frequently-accessed data

5.      SSD used NAND flash memory after one year data leakage may happen and these devices are temperature dependent

6.      SSD interfaces may advances time to time when that time may or may not possible to interface with new technologies

7.      Initially SSD is possible with CCD(charge coupled devices) which is applicable for faster than IBM products and storage also good (1978), later move to DRAM(Dynamic RAMS) with external memory interfaces which is not possible with SSD, 1980 again DRAM based SSDs come in to market.

8.      Some times prematurely ending the life of the SSD If a particular block is programmed and erased repeatedly without writing to any other blocks

9.      Lon run price per capacity more, storage capacity reduces, reliability reduces, storage capacity reduces, startup time increase, accessing time (standard and random) increased,

10. Acoustic noise effects after long time : some SSDs, pitch noise generated in high level due to high volatge generators when earsing blocks

11. Long time usage leads to increase of power consumption

12. However, working far beyond the expected lifetime as stated by their manufacturer/designer

13. Most nearly 96% of those SSDs that need repair (service or calibration) once in their life depending on the model.
