Immune system is the most important system of our body and they protect us from various infections. Immunity is of two type, natural and acquired. Natural immunity is something that which we received during birth from mother via colostrum. Acquired immunity is achieved during the lifetime via various infections. If a pathogen tries to enter our body, it has to undergo various line of defenses. First one is the physical barriers which include skin, keratin, mucus, sebum, earwax, HCl of stomach etc. If pathogen is able to break that then there will be inflammatory response which cause the elimination of the pathogen.
immune system can recognize self and non self which is the greatest feature
Cells responsible for the fighting with pathogens are WBCs. They include lymphocte, monocyte, neutrophil, eosinophil and basophil. most of these cells kills pathogen by phagocytosis and Lymphocyte are of 2 type T and B lymphocytes. They can produce a well targeted specific response which is very effective and sharp. They also produce memory cells which are helpful for a quick response during the infection of the same pathogen again.
all these things are done inside our body every time. since we are exposed to millions of pathogens daily, immune system is very important to be functional in full swing.
If the immune system is malfunctioned, we will be more prone to various infections and natural recovery will not happen. This can create very serious troubles to the life itself. AIDS is such a condition where the immune system of the victim is destroyed by the HIV which ultimately make him more prone to infections
