Mutually beneficially agreements are developed based on the mutual interest of the parties in an interest based bargaining technique. I have an experience of this technique in my work life. Few months back when our performance appraisal result came, the team members were given a very small increment and there was a conflict between the management and the employees on the same. Some of the employees who received good performance rating submitted their resignation. The management tried to negotiate with the top performing employees individually. They tried to understand the individual interest of the employees. Some of them were interested in overseas opportunities and some of them in moving to other positions within the organization and others in learning new skills. Management wanted to retain them in the organization and hence they agreed to provide the benefits according to their interest to withdraw their resignation. The employees compromised and the conflict got solved using interest based bargaining.
