More active animals have a higher metabolic rate than less active animals. Thus metabolism depends on the level of activity.

Thus species B which has a lower metabolic rate is likely to be a mammal. For example Hummingbirds, with their tiny bodies and high levels of activity, have the highest metabolic rates of any animals.
