The " dark side "of job engagement is that employees may not focus on their work and feel satisfied with the attention they are getting from their employers and management. This may lead to complacency and negative work culture of non performance. The goal of employee engagement is to ensure employee work satisfaction, motivating them for better performance and skills improvement. The dark side of employee engagement may lead the workers to not give their best performance and increase employee costs as well as poor performance and service levels. I have not experienced it as I choose to focus on my work and not get influenced much by employee engagement initiatives unless they help me to improve my work, share feedback and facilitate communication for better work culture and positive changes.
