There are multiple possible situations when it is more appropriate to use broad spectrum antimicrobial. The potential situations include :
a) When the patient is infected with some particular microbes which are tolerant and resistant to some specific drugs/antibiotics.
b) When the patient is suffering from infections caused by multiple infective microbes of different types, then a single narrow spectrum antibiotic will obviously fail to work properly. Such situations are referred to as superinfections, and require broad spectrum antimicrobials for most of the time.
c) When we don't have exact knowledge or information about the causitive microbe, and immediate preliminary treatment is required to prevent further transmission and spread of infection, then the patient is given broad spectrum antimicrobials until the exact identification of causitive microbe is done.
d) When the patient is taking immunosuppressant drugs, then his immune system is somewhat dysfunctional. So his body will be more prone to infections by microbes. So he should take broad spectrum antimicrobials to prevent any sort of infections that might be caused due to wide range of microbes present in the surroundings.

in what clinical situation is it most appropriate to use broad spectrum antimicrobial
Consider that a certain antimicrobial drug prevents bacterial growth. However, when the drug treatment is stopped, the bacteria resumes growth. This antimicrobial drug would be considered. Select one: a. bacteriostatic. b. narrow-spectrum. c. toxic. d. broad-spectrum. e. bacteriocidal. Broad-spectrum drugs target a wide variety of bacterial pathogens. Even when the broad-spectrum drug is capable of killing a target pathogen, it may not be the best treatment. Which statement best explains why a broad spectrum drug might be an undesirable treatment...
2. Why do broad-spectrum antibiotics such as streptomycin, chloramphenicol, and tetracycline inhibit a wide variety of prokaryotes, but do not harm human cells? a. 3. If an infectious agent is sensitive to several antimicrobial drugs, what other considerations might be taken into consideration to determine which drug should be prescribed to the patient? a 4. Look at a household cleanser or antiseptic that you use in your own home. What claims are made about its effectiveness against microbes (read the...

An effective digital health ecosystem relies on a broad spectrum of technical, clinical, and administrative stakeholders to gather and analyze patient data and then use that information to improve the quality of care offered. Within the health care environment, information systems and technology (IS/IT) are used to ensure patient privacy and security, inform optimal decision making, and assist in operational efficiency, which further enhances the services that clinicians, hospitals, technology developers, researchers, and policymakers are able to provide. The textbook...

Consider the IR spectrum for cyclododecanol (below). There is a broad absorption at about 3250 cm^-1. What functional group is responsible for this absorption, and why is the absorption broad? Consider the IR spectrum for cyclododecanone (below). In the functional group region of the IR spectrum, specify the absorption associated with the carbon-oxygen double bond.
