Imagine that you are King Ferdinand or Queen Isabella of Spain, and that you have just received these documents (Traditions & Encounters, p. 357) from Columbus, reporting the results of his mission. You know that Columbus will soon request funding for a second, much larger expedition across the ocean, probably to establish a permanent Spanish settlement. Would you give him this funding or not? Would you trust what Columbus has written in these documents? (Why or why not?) Try to give multiple, specific reasons for your decision (discuss each reason in a separate paragraph), and in discussing such reasons refer to specific passages from Columbus’s documents. [Note: you may also use the general knowledge you have acquired about European exploration from the lecture and textbook – but, remember, you would only know what Ferdinand and Isabella knew in the year 1493.] Remember to write as if you are Ferdinand or Isabella (don’t write “as yourself”); try to make your answer sound as if it were written in 1493, with the values of that time, rather than in 2020 with our own values. If i were a king and Columbus came to me for funding i would not give it a second thought to say no. The reason being the fact that he has alreday proved his worth. The reason being the fact that it will be a value for money and also give us a new outlook in business. This will be a platform for the people of my country to have a name. The wrold will also know us better with this journey. This will allowthe people to respect our culture and value system. It will also give people as stance to try understanding the culture we have, All these things will together have a different outlook for us. We need to know that no matter what happens. to have a recognition on a global level it the best things in life.
