If you were a judge in a London court in an appeal of this breach of contract for the provision of natural gas to Nigeria, would you enforce the $9 billion judgment against Nigeria? Why or why not? How would you resolve this case?
Should Nigeria shy away from international trade and development contracts with other companies or do the economic customs of comparative advantage still apply to food, natural gas, and other areas?

Answer #1

Nigerian government should be penalized for the breach of contract. Not only they unfulfilled the terms of the contract but also they didn't able to live up to the expectations of its citizens. Had they obliged their contractual commitments it would have brought much benefit to the country. From creating jobs for the locals to almost free electricity, Nigeria missed on many profitable aspects. Instead of making profit out of the deal, now they would be paying penalties for the damage.

I would suggest that both the parties should work on their differences and mold the contract in such a way that both can make profit and benefit the citizens.

Nigeria should not shy away from international trade as it will bring down the prestige of the nation. It will the trade and investment with other countries and seclude it internationally.
