On the first day of the assignment, he has just taken charge and has known his actual work and has taught, "how he is going to accomplish them". This is due to his self doubts and is out of clue of how and where to start with, an guidence from an experienced person in this role is very much needed for him at this point.

If I can meet the challenges of leadership-

Later that day, he has understood the actual work and is confident to have figured out the way it works.

Self doubt and less confidence stops him to be a good learder, roles like lead and manager is challenging and one needs to understand his self ability more than the job.
