Does the organism derive more, less,or the same amount of useful energy from the utilization of mannitol relative to the utilization of glucose?
Bacteria which breakdown glucose can either obtained 36 molecules of ATP by The breakdown of glucose in the presence of oxygen or can obtain 4 molecules of ATP by The breakdown of glucose in the absence of oxygen.
But if a bacteria uses mannitol, then it will also obtian same amount of energy. Mannitol is phosphorylated to mannitol 6 phosphate which is isomerized to Fructose 6 phosphate which is a glycolytic intermediate. Fructose 6 phosphate enter glycolysis and is then catabolized in the normal way.
Therefore mannitol and glucose, both release almost same amount of energy.

A newly discovered organism catabolizes glucose in a process that is similar to humans. It goes through glycolysis and TCA the same way a human does. But the only difference is that its ETC has six protein complexes but only five of those complexes transport proteins. Is this organism going to make less or more ATP in comparison to a human? Explain why.

c) Both lightbulbs emit the same amount of light energy. If the only other energy emitted by the bulbs is heat energy, how much more heat energy does the 80 W bulb emit over this one hour period? 2.88 1049 J d) During the summer, air conditioners are used to cool buildings by taking the heat out of the building. If an air conditioner is rated at 120 W and removes 40 J of heat from a building, how much...
Derive an expression for the alpha-particle separation energy. Use your result to calculate the amount of energy required to remove an alpha from 16O.
Skeletal muscle cells derive much of their energy from glucose, especially during anaerobic periods of strenuous exercise. Briefly describe the glycolysis pathway, including the high-energy molecules generated under this condition
Derive this equation from an energy standpoint. Start from the
total energy of an oscillating rigid system in a magnetic field and
obtain the same equation as above. Note that this derivation is
cleaner, as you don’t have to put in the minus sign by hand.
