When you are working in an organization and leading a team, your team is the most important asset and resource. In order to achieve great results, you should motivate and inspire your team.
Yes, I can motivate my team. There are various methods that I apply when I am working with my team to motivate them. Motivation comes from understanding and caring, not from scaring the team members. It is very important to understand the employees and have empathy towards them. This makes a leader be aware of what team members need and for what they are working. Every individual in the team has different perceptions, norms, cultural background and family backgrounds. So to motivate a team it is essential to consider every individual in the team and understand their needs because if every individual is satisfied with their work and motivated, ultimately the organization gets benefitted from it. Moreover, the right working environment will also motivate team members because in the right environment the employees feel nurtured, appreciated, acknowledged and respected. To create a motivational environment it is essential to set realistic goals for the team. If the team is hardworking but it cannot able to achieve the goal because of setting unrealistic goals, it may demotivate the team. Motivation has a direct connection with their performance. So if team members feel demotivated their performance level will go down. Providing employees recognition will also contribute to the creation of a motivational environment. This brings satisfaction to the team members and creates a trust for the organization in them. This will also lower the employee's turnover. Celebrating holidays and create traditions also helps in creating a motivational environment. Traditions are as important in an organization as they are in families. A holiday celebration builds positive morale, which results in increased motivation. Money can motivate employees but not always necessarily a factor for motivation. It is because everyone needs praise and recognition for doing great work in the organization. If only compensation is given and no praise was given to employees, then the morale cannot be increased and can lead to less efficiency at work. Moreover, motivation through money depends on different individual goals. If an employee thinks that his goal in life is to earn money, then definitely for that person money is a motivator. But if another employee has a goal to become excellent in his work, then money cannot be a motivator for him.
There are various leadership styles which organization adopt. In my opinion, democratic leadership will keep me engage and motivated comparatively with other types of leadership. This type of leadership will increase morale in me and encourage me to be loyal to the organization. Under this type of leadership, the team members are included in the decision-making process. Leaders often ask the team members what they think and try to take their thoughts and opinion into account. If my opinion is taken into consideration in the organizational decision process then I will be felt more engaged in the work and this, in turn, increases my productivity at work. Increased productivity will lead to the achievement of goals. And again my achievement brings recognition in the organization due to democratic leadership.
