MARKETING QUESTION (b2b,b2C)
Identify a recent major purchase that you made recently. How did you recognize the need for the product or service? Where did you go to gather information about the options that were available to you? Did you use one method or a combination of methods?
I recently purchased a 49 inch Sony Smart TV.
Around 3 months back, I subscribed to streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. I got really interested in watching their content. On average, I watched some content from the streaming services for 1 hour every day. On weekends, I started to binge-watch shows. I was using my smartphone to view the shows and movies. Watching shows and movies for an extended period on the smartphone soon started to become very cumbersome for me. Also, I was not able to enjoy the shows and movies along with my family on a TV, as I had an old TV that did not have a provision for playing streaming services. After a lot of thought, I decided that I need to buy a Smart TV to fully enjoy the content from the streaming services, with my family.
Now that I had decided to buy a smart TV, I had to decide which TV to buy. The room in which I planned to keep the TV was a big one, so I decided that I will buy a large 49 inch TV. Then for deciding brands, I searched online on websites like Amazon. After searching for around 2 days, I was able to shortlist a Sony smart TV. I selected Sony based on online customer reviews, comparision of different TVs online, reviews from my friends and my knowledge about Sony TV's performance. After searching the TV price online on various sites, I found out that the price listed on Amazon was the lowest, however, the delivery time was 4-5 days. Then, I went to Sony Exclusive stores and some multi-brand electronic stores in my city and searched for the same smart TV. I found out that the Sony Exclusive store was offering the TV at the same price as Amazon. The benefit here was that the TV would be delivered to me in an hour after I purchase the TV.
So, I finalized my purchase there and then at the Sony Exclusive store, and got my brand new TV delivered the same day.
I gathered information about the Smart TV using a combination of both online and offline methods. Online methods included searching on various websites, reading online customer reviews, comparing different TVs online, etc. The offline methods included asking my friends and visiting various stores.
