Answer #1

The pitcher plant secretes hydrolytic enzymes and other proteins for prey digestion. This carnivorous plant produces a pitcher- shaped structure with a pool of water in it and the insects slide into this pitcher and meet a watery demise. The enzymatic secretions dissolves the insects and absorb the nutrients .The carnivorous plants mimic other attractive resources like flowers , fruits by using specific visual or olfactory signals to trap the prey.Plants like Venus flytrap, Sundew Drosera binata, Sarracenia minor,Sarracenia purpurea etc secretes compounds found in flowers or fruits and these scents are mainly volatiles to trap insects.
