Discuss Piaget's theory of the cognitive processes of young adulthood. How does this cognitive process differ from that of an adolescent?

Jean Piaget's theory of cognitive development suggests that kids move through four completely different stages of mental development.1 Piaget's stages are:

Sensorimotor stage: birth to 2 years

Preoperational stage: ages 2 to 7

Concrete operational stage: ages 7 to 11

Formal operational stage: ages twelve and up

Piaget believed that kids take an active role within the learning method, acting very like very little scientists as they perform experiments, build observations, and find out about the world.

The body process Stage

Ages: Birth to 2 Years

Major Characteristics and organic process Changes:

The infant is aware of the globe through their movements and sensations

Children find out about the globe through basic actions like consumption, grasping, looking, and listening

The Preoperational Stage

Ages: 2 to 7 Years

Major Characteristics and developmental Changes:

Children begin to assume symbolically and learn to use words and photos to represent objects.

Children at this stage tend to be egocentric and struggle to visualize things from the angle of others.


The Concrete Operational Stage

Ages: 7 to 11 Years

Major Characteristics and developmental Changes

During this stage, kids begin to thinking logically concerning concrete events

They begin to know the idea of conservation; that the quantity of liquid in a very short, wide cup is adequate to that in a very tall, skinny glass, as an example.


The Formal Operational Stage

Ages: 12 and Up

Major Characteristics and developmental Changes:

At this stage, the adolescent or young adult begins to assume abstractly and reason concerning hypothetical issues

Abstract thought emerges

Teens begin to assume a lot of concerning ethical, philosophical, ethical, social, and political problems that need theoretical and abstract reasoning
