Describe the structure and function of the strobilus of a club moss. In what ways is the strobilus similar to the cone in gymnosperms?
Strobilus is a cone like thick walled structure present in club mosses. It contains spores which are involved in the the Reproduction of the plant. Strobilus is a very small structure present on the fertile branch of the plant. It is a very small aggregation of leaves which bear sporangia which further contains spores.
It is similar to cones of gymnosperms because strobilus and cones both are involved in reproduction. They both contains spores. There are only two differences between strobilus and cones, the former is very small as compared to the latter. The Other difference is that one plant having only one type of strobilus but in gymnosperm, two types of cones are present, male cone and female cone.
