Answer)
The expert system is the computer system emulates decision making abilities of the human expert and designed and made for solving complex problems by reasoning using the bodies of knowledge. The main components of an expert system are:
a) Interface engine which is the processing element of the system which chooses the rules from the agenda to fire. Also, interface engine receives input or information from the user and draws the conclusions for the situations and then provide the answers and responses.
b) Knowledge base is the component which is the collection of the rules and information which are derived from the human expert.
c) User interface is the interface using which the expert system can interact with the user.
The benefits of expert systems are that the information required for the expert system to work has to be explicit and not implicit. Also the expert system can be rapidly developed and easily maintained. The expert systems provide consistent answers for repetitive decisions and processed. They also hold significant levels of information.
The limitations of expert systems are that the performance can be problematic as they were slow and the cannot match the efficiency of the fastest compiled languages. Expert systems made lack common sense in decision makings and cannot make creative responses. Also, they cannot adapt to the changing environments, and also errors may occur in the knowledge based which can lead to wrong decisions.
