• Waste of overproduction - overproduction means manufacturing items before they are actually required or over production of the product. overproduction can cause issues and can prohibit the smooth flow of materials. to overcome the problem the companies should schedule and produce according to the demand and availability of resources. Just in time mechanism will be helpful to evaluate.
• Waste of time on hand ( waiting) - waste of time occurs whenever the goods are processed. this happens when the production is slow work centers are apart etc. linking process together so that one feed is directly into the next can dramatically reduce the waiting time.
• waste of transportation - transporting product and raw materials from one place to another can cause increase in cost without adding much value to the product therefore it cannot be easily reduced but can be minimized by mapping the product flow
• Unnecessary inventory - unnecessary inventory can cause cost issues as it requires storage and maintenance and time. Maintaining seamless motion in the process and work centers can help adding customer value and deducting and reducing the cost and can slash unnecessary inventory.
• Excess motion - this waste is seen in blending, stretching, lifting , etc these also have effect on health and safety issues. jobs with excess motion are to be analyzed and redesigned for improvement.
• waste of defective product - production of defective products have a direct impact on cost, quality and goodwill of the company. It involves making the product from scratch and tremendous cost of production. Through employee involvement and continuous process improvement it can be reduced.
