1 kg air is contained in an INSULATED piston-cylinder device. Initially, the temperature and pressure of the gas are T = 300 K and P = 200 kPa respectively. Work is extracted from the gas until the pressure of the gas reaches to Pfinal. Calculate Pfinal according to the last digit of your student number.

Students with “00” as the last digit should take Pfinal = 100 kPa and Students with “99” as the last digit should take Pfinal = 120 kPa. Conduct a linear interpolation for the digits between 00 and 99.

[2.5] a) Calculate the Pfinal according to the description above.

[5]b) Calculate the maximum possible work extraction from the system. (Isentropic expansion process)

[7.5] c) Consider an irreversible and adiabatic expansion where no work could be extracted from the system. (ultimate irreversible expansion process) Calculate the entropy generated during such a process.

[25] d) Plot in EXCEL the work extraction vs. entropy generation where 0 ≤
