A uniformly distributed normal stress, either tension or compression, is applied to the edges of the plate of Fig. 1 in the x direction, and a uniform tension or compression is also applied in the y direction. The dimensions of the deformed plate are 15.010 and 9.996 in. Find the stresses σx and σx. E = 30,000,000 psi. Poisson’s ratio, μ = 0.3.
