Try to avoid System-1 snap decisions. Be as reflective as possible about how you would go about making the hypothetical decision in question.
You’ve placed an ad for a roommate on Craig's list. You were expecting one or two responses, but you have already received well over 20. What is the first thing you do and how do you go about doing it?
The hypothetical decision I would make while selecting a roommate based on my ad on Craig's list is as follows
- I have received over 20 responses. I would read responses based on the timeline first. Secondly, I would eliminate the spam responses and keep a list of genuine responses only. Next, I would shortlist 5 out of it based on their responses. Shortlisting is done based on the below-mentioned criteria
a) The amount of information given about roommate on the response. This includes name, cell number etc
b) Preferences of roommate such as food, workplace, utilities etc
c) If the roommate is bargaining for rent sharing as to make it affordable.
d) Any previous experience as being a roommate with someone if mentioned.
- Next, I will see my preference and rate each of the 5.
- The one with the highest rating will be called on his number and I will have a personal conversation with him/her. If not found suitable will call for the second.
- If none of the 5 candidates are found suitable, the above-mentioned steps will continue until I find the right roommate suiting my preferences.
