According to the given question-

Streams -

  • stream is a water body where the water present at the surface flow and have three layer of water such as  surface water, subsurface water as well as groundwater and are controlled by several factors such as   geological factor, hydrological factor, geomorphological, as well as biotic factor.
  • Streams play an important role in maintaining water cycle, helps in recharge of level of ground water, helps in migration of wildlife organisms and a natural environment for fishes. Stream are also called Brook, swale., Runnel, Creek, and River.

Lake-

  • It is also a water body which are surrounded by land and connected to river as well as streams but not linked to any sea. Lake may be freshwater as well as salt water.
  • size and depth of lake is more than the pond. Natural lake are formed from rift zones, mountain area , the water that flow into lake.

insect diversity in streams so much higher than in lakes-

  • Both stream and lake serve as natural habitat and provide food to several aquatic organisms from microscopic size to complex aquatic animal.
  • The value which play an important role in proper development and growth of organisms such as nutrient content , oxygen content or dissolved oxygen , total dissolved solid , biological oxygen demand, amount of carbon dioxide, pH, temperature of water,   are  more suitable in stream than the lake because the nutrient cycle such as carbon cycle, nitrogen cycle, and waste production and removal by the organism present in the stream are better than the lake due to the flowing nature of stream.
  • stream provide water current that play an important role in movement , for finding the food, which is less in lake. so these are the few favorable condition that are present in the stream than the lake and play an important role in growth and development of aquatic insect that are present in the stream.

Why does octanol has higher bouling point than water? I belive that water can form 4 H bonds and more polar than octanol. So I expected to see higher boiling point for water. But actually, octanol has higher boiling point than water. Does it imply that octanol has stringer intermolecular force? If so, could anyone explain why?
