A mutation results in the production of much less DNA ligase than normal will result in DNA replication, but the leading strand would be composed of many small fragments. Production of much less DNA ligase than normal will result in a decrease level of cellular DNA content and the synthesized DNA will contains numerous DNA single-strand breaks, suggesting that these cells are defective in sealing nicks generated during DNA replication and/or repair.
