One neuron stimulates a skeletal muscle: what does it happen at the neuron termination? 2. And what does it happen in the muscle from the arrival of the stimulus up to the contraction
1. Arrival of action potential to axon terminal stimulate openin of calcium channel. This causes influx of calcium ion. Calcium binds to synaptic vesicle and this leads to fusion of synaptic vesicle to axon terminal membrane. This leads to release of neurotransmitter (Acetylcholine) in synaptic cleft.
2. Acetylcholine binds to its receptor on motor end plate. This leads to depolarisation of motor end plate. This leads to influx of calcium ion within muscle cell. Calcium now binds to troponin and this causes displacement of tropomyosin from active site of actin. Myosin now bind to active site of actin by utilisation of ATP, this leads to cross bridge formation (between actin and myosin). This leads to muscle contraction.

The response of skeletal muscle to the somatic motor neuron is always excitatory, resulting in muscle contraction. If it's always excitatory, what must happen at the level of the neuron to get a muscle to relax?
True or False: The striations in skeletal muscle are formed by the arrangement of thick and thin filaments. 2. True or False: In skeletal muscle cells, the sarcoplasmic reticulum is continuous with the sarcolemma. 3. The interval between two Z lines is called a ________________. 4. At a neuromuscular junction, the space between the plasma membrane of the synaptic terminal and the motor end plate is the __________________. 5. An action potential (electric impulse) is transferred from a...
Why does a skeletal muscle cell need a neuromuscular junction as a component part? Skeletal muscle fibers are voluntary and thus must be stimulated by a neural impulse before they will contract. Through the neuron, the brain tells the muscle cell what proteins to produce and what wastes to pump out of the cell. The muscle cell needs to be told when to divide, such as when a person is exercising and needs more muscle. A neuron provides the necessary...
what is the energy source used for muscle contraction? how does recruitment of motor units work? do all muscle fibers in a motor unit contract every time the somatic motor neuron stimulates it?
Question 16 (1 point) What is the best description of a tetanic contraction in a skeletal muscle cell? A single action potential in the motor neuron causes a sustained contraction Multiple action potentials in the motor neuron cause a sustained contraction. The action potential in the muscle cell is prolonged to last as long as the contraction Repeated action potentials from the motor neuron summate into a sustained depolarization of the motor end plate, causing a sustained contraction ( A...
Neuron Signaling and Muscle Contraction 1) “Dissect” the various parts of an action potential by describing the status (active or nonactive) of the voltage-gated sodium channel, voltage-gated potassium channel, sodium/potassium pump, and overall voltage and/ or voltage range (in millivolts, or mV) for each of the following. A) Resting membrane (prior to the initiation of an action potential) B) just before threshold to just after threshold (Depolarization) C) Rising phase of the action potential D) Falling phase of the action...

11. The figure below shows tension recorded in two different skeletal muscles: a control (solid line), and one that was injected with caffeine (dashed line). Arrows show the arrival of action s loc potentials at both muscles ming of stimulus, contraction and relaxation phases are the same). We know that caffeine n channels. Based on this data, please identify which ion channels are affected, explain why tension builds faster in the injected muscle, and identify the mechanism used to build...
A.Describe one similarity and one difference between skeletal muscle cells and cardiac muscle cells? B.When action potential arrives at the axonal terminal of neuromuscular junction (NMJ), name the neurotransmitter released to the synaptic cleft. Name the ion channel responsible for the binding to the neurotransmitter (c) When action potential arrives and travels down the T-tubule of skeletal muscle cells, this triggers the release of calcium ions from sarcoplasmic reticulum. Briefly explain how calcium ions are involved in initiating muscle contraction....
