Yellow algae contains chloroplast that do not contain fucoxanthin, that are responsible for their lighter color. Carotenoids present in yellow algae are responsible for their color.
Brown algae contains green pigments (chlorophyll a and chlorophyll c) and the brown fucoxanthin. The brown color of these algae is because of the dominance of the xanthophyll pigment fucoxanthin, which mask the other pigments present in these algae like chlorophyll a , chlorophyll c, beta carotene and other xanthophylls.
