Name the five enzymes involved in protein digestion, and list the site of action for each of the enzymes.
Answer: Protein digestion occur by hydrolysis of peptide bond that binds amino acids in a polypeptide chain. Five enzymes that are involved in protein digestion are:
(1) Pepsin: Presence of food in stomach causes G cell of mucosa to produce gastrin hormone which in turn stimulates pareital cells of gastric glands to secrete hydrochloric acid. Gastric glands also produced mucus and pepsinogen which at low pH is converted into pepsin. The site of action of pepsin is stomach.
(2) Trypsin:Once the gastric content enters duodenum and jejunum, hormone cholecystokinin causes exocrine pancrease to release enzyme rich juice. Trypsinogen is inactive proenzyme activated into trypsin.Trypsin is protein-digesting enzyme present in pancreatic juices secreted into small intestine.
(3) Chemotrypsin: This is also present in pancreatic juice which helps in protein digestion. Its site of action is duodenum.
(4) Elastase: This protein digesting enzymes is also present in pancreatic juice. It is activated by trypsin in duodenum.
(5) Carboxypeptidase: It is produced in inactive form as procarboxypeptidase which is activated into active form by trypsin. Its site of action is duodenum and jejunum.

Lipid metabolism enzymes (Substrates and final products)
Question:
Digestion of macronutrients occurs throughout the length of the GI tract. List the enzymes involved in lipid digestion, the tissue source of these enzymes, where the enzymes function, and any regulatory hormones that play a role in modulating digestive enzyme secretion. For each of the enzymes listed, please indicate the primary substrate and final product of the reaction.

In considering the 'active site' of enzymes, a fair generalization is that a. nearly all of the amino acid side-chains of the protein must directly participate in catalysis b. all the amino acid residues which are involved in the active site are adjacent because they are located on the same short stretch of polypeptide backbone c. the amino acid residues which form the active site are in close proximity because of the specific three-dimensional conformation the protein has adopted d....

Which of the following statements about the enzymes that take part in prokaryotic protein synthesis is correct? Peptidyl transferase is a protein that carries out its action by a mechanism involved in mimicking a tRNA. EF-G, the factor in the translocation of prokaryotic protein synthesis, is a protein that carries out its action by a mechanism that mimicks an amino acyltRNA-EF-Tu-GTP complex. EF-G, the factor involved in prokaryotic protein synthesis, mimicks EF- Tu because they both bind GTP. EF-Tu, the...

A. Name seven proteins or enzymes (there are more than seven) involved in DNA replication in prokaryotes. B. Describe clearly and briefly the function of each of these components. C. When during the cell cycle does this process generally occur?
Thioredoxin is a protein involved in the regulation of some Calvin cycle enzymes. Determine which statements accurately describe the regulation of some enzymes by thioredoxin. 1) Ferredoxin-thioredoxin reductase catalyzes the reduction of thioredoxin. 2) Thioredoxin transfers electrons from photosystem II to ferredoxin. 3) Thioredoxin is in its reduced form when light is available. 4) Activated thioredoxin cleaves disulfide bonds in some Calvin cycle enzymes. 5) Active thioredoxin has a disulfide bond between two cycteine residues.
