Women's Army Auxiliary corps(WAAC) was established on May 14 ,1942, by the U.S congress. WAAC was established "for the purpose of making available to the national defense the knowledge l, skill and special training of women of the nation ". On July 1, 1943 WAAC was given active duty status becoming WAC.About 150,000 American women served in the Women's Army corpse during world war 2. Being the first of females to serve as army soldiers among males, the women in WAC took their rightful places, having both protection and distinction.At first many of the WAC's duties involves mainly ofiice work. some women in the WAC worked as scientists and engineers, while other began in clinical and service jobs, but trained and later transitioned to technical&research positions.
●AFTER WORLD WAR || : After the war ended, the WAC along with other services members in the special engineer detachment, were demobilized from the Manhattan district.Many women left their wartime position and returned to their homes or took on lower paid positions labelled as "womens work". In 1948, congress passed the Women Integration Act , guaranteeing that women would have a place in the U.S Military Service.After the war women continued Serve in WAC,and WAC remained as the women unit of military.Womens served in a variety of positions through the WAC in other U.S conflicts such as the Korean war& the vietnam war.In 1978, the army abolished the WAC&women were fully intergrated into the regular army, serving in the same units as men.
●WAC on Today's Generation: Today, the 'Women's Army corpes veterans association' exists to represent the thousand of women" who loyally served their country in world war || , Korea, Veitnam, Granada, Panama, Persian Gulf, Bosnia& in Iraq and Afghanistan."The organisation have over 3,500 active members and host annual meetings,workshops and local chapter conventions. The organization also publishes The Channel to keep the members informed to local activities.
