Do you believe that changing the name of the NFL team, Washington redskins, would be Social injustice or justice, and why? In detail What can be done to prevent the issue in the future?
The Washington Redskins(NFL) - National football League was in controversy for long period due to the changing name and logo of the team.
Native Americans were demanding to change the name because they contended that using the names or symbol of native American by non - native sports team is unfair and unethical.
I think it was a social injustice with the residents of American specially with the native Americans because the name can be used by the natives not by the outsiders. Using their name and logo can create harmful stereotyping that encourages the misconception and discrimination with the native Americans. No country would allow some others to use their name and perform at national or international level. It is violation of guidelines and law.
In order to avoid such types of controversy in future it is better to take trade mark and registered the logo with the trademark association. It is also necessary that the government formulate some laws to protect the name and symbols where strict punishment and penalty should be imposed on the violators.
