In recent years, Asia and elsewhere have found that people in non-Western cultures often have ideas about intelligence that differ fundamentally from those that have shaped Western intelligence tests.Research on those differences is already providing support for some of the more inclusive Western definitions of intelligence, it may also help researchers design new intelligence tests that are sensitive to the values of the cultures in which they are used.Researchers of cultural differences in intelligence face a major challenge, however: balancing the desire to compare people from various cultures according to a standard measure with the need to assess people in the light of their own values and concepts."On the one hand, mindless application of the same tests across cultures is desired by no one," she suggests. "On the other, everyone would like to be able to do at least some comparisons of people across cultures".Some cultural differences in intelligence play out on a global scale.
Psychological assessment contributes important information to the understanding of individual characteristics and capabilities, through the collection, integration, and interpretation of information about an individual. An important piece of the assessment process and the focus of this report, psychological testing consists of the administration of one or more standardized procedures under particular environmental conditions (e.g., quiet, good lighting) in order to obtain a representative sample of behavior. Such formal psychological testing may involve the administration of standardized interviews, questionnaires, surveys, and/or tests, selected with regard to the specific examinee and his or her circumstances, that offer information to respond to an assessment question. Assessments, then, serve to respond to questions through the use of tests and other procedures.

Re intelligence of a new family from another culture
It is common for international students to have certain cultural assumptions and expectations about education that differ from many of our domestic students’ perspectives. We should all strive to be aware of these cultural differences so they do not become barriers to our students’ learning. The fact that there is a great diversity of approaches to education across the globe makes it all the more important for us as faculty to be clear about our expectations for students. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Glass et al. (2015) found that faculty are “the most influential persons shaping an international student’s academic trajectory” (p. 353). At DePaul, an institution that prioritizes teaching and whose mission underscores the inherent dignity of all people, it is our responsibility to do our part in helping all of our students achieve the learning goals we’ve set for our courses.
