What is the chemical equation (with states) for this reaction in balanced and unbalanced form?

In an aqueous solution of acetic acid, zinc metal will be oxidized to form soluble zinc acetate and the acid will be reduced to give hydrogen gas.

Directions: Add 20 mL of vinegar (preferably distilled) to an Erlenmeyer flask. Add a single galvanized nail and observe the reaction. This reaction may require heating and might take a half hour or more – let it sit and re-observe after a few minutes.
