What Jonas Salk did: There was a time in America when thousands of children became infected with the crippling disease polio. It was Jonas Salk developed the first safe and effective vaccine for polio after he tested the vaccine made of killed polio virus. He observed that the vaccine immunized the volunteers without any negative reactions or risk of infection. He also played an important role in development of first influenza vaccine and also pioneered research on AIDS. Jonas Salk was also a humanitarian for he did not patent his vaccine and donated it for the benefit of mankind.

Jonas Salk’s story is very inspiring. Salk’s contribution to humanity is beyond appreciation. His farsightedness that led him to develop the vaccine that saved generations from abnormalities. Salk directed the course of medicinal research towards new understanding and treatments for a wide range of diseases, from Influenza to polio and from AIDS to other cardiovascular disorders. Salk’s discoveries and works paved the way to improving the quality and quantity of medicine. Salk’s contributions are therefore huge and cannot be ignored.
