Acting as an agent of change can be a tricky business, particularly when the school in which you teach is a very traditional one. Certainly, it is often easier to go with the flow of traditional school culture than to try to change it. it does not appear, however, that Melissa thought of herself as a change agent; rather, she was attempting only to utilize existing human and intellectual resources in a better way for the sake of her students. What are some of the factors that turn a seemingly innocent curricular activity into a potential source of protest?
People who initiated the first steps of change are regarded as Gods in their respective societies but it was not easy and would cost even one’s life. Changing something which was practiced in a certain way, is a very tough task because people would be happy about sticking with the old practices as doing something requires them to put extra effort. Secondly, their mind-set would have settled in some old practices which they would stick because of the fear of the unknown. They wouldn’t know whether the new practice would yield any result or not. The students would take more time to understand the instructions and the new method because all the other students would practice something else that they are accustomed with. Finally, it would be the ego that would prevent people from accepting whatever a new comer says to them. No one would like their practices to e criticized by another as they would believe that whatever they do is right.
