(i) You have been invited to do a 10-minute TED talk on any aspect of Management Theory. Outline your talk and create a few slides (around 5). You don't have to write the whole talk down; an outline of what you intend to do will suffice. TED talks are meant for a general audience. You can't assume your audience knows much about your own field of expertise. The talk has to have a specific "takeaway" or two (what you want the audience to retain), and therefore must be focused. It should also have an interesting hook. You can copy the slides into your word processing document or submit them separately as a different document.

For this interesting assignment I will outline the presentation on Management theory in a more generalised but impressive manner. And since it is a Ted talk I can present my opinions and facts in a little informal approach too.

When we generally perform the daily activities we tend to apply some ideas which become rules for performing routine tasks. For instance during cooking food we have the definite idea of how many ingredients to be mixed, the suitable quantity, added flavours to make it tasty, or the process of what is to be done first , what next and so on. And we follow them as rules and perform tasks in cooking accordingly which gives us the ultimate tasty dish.

Similarly in a business organization there is also a certain collection of ideas which are applied to the functioning of business as definite rules specified to perform various functions for producing the desired result.

These rules are applied by group of people in organization called Managers who help to manage business activities and these rules are referred to as Management Theories.

Introduction :

It is basically the concept in business administration which involves applying various ideas, rules and procedures for managing the activities of business organization to carry out the operations effectively to ensure the smooth flow of tasks which helps the business to stay aloof of all the complexities and issues that might otherwise hamper its survival.

Concept :

In other words the way Managers align the tasks and operational activities in an organization to accomplish its mission and goals are called Management theories..

These rules are laid down by managers who are entrusted with the tasks of handling processes, people and information flow inside the organizational structure or departments to help organization in achieving desired results.

Purpose of theories

Management theories act as guidelines for employees and workers inside the organization to perform the tasks as instructed in order to ensure that they are supporting the ultimate goal or objective.

Importance of management theories

Managers in order to ensure that workers and employees are able to perform their job roles and responsibilities in an acceptable or desired manner , make use of various theories which explicitly specify the sequence of tasks to control the performance of employees towards the direction which helps accomplishing the ultimate goal of organization.

Classification of Management theories :

The various management theories are classified on the basis of era of business such as : the classical management, the modern management theory and the behavioral management theory

Other classification us based on the nature of business practices such as, systems theory, bureaucratic management theory, scientific management theory, contingency theory etc.

Each theory presents a different view and perspective of managing business to improve its processes and efficiency in order to produce the outcome as expected by the management.
