But plant imprints and animal tracks' in hardened mud are also fossils. Sometimes fossils are whole animals. For example, whole woolly mammoths have been found. Sometimes a dead animals body decayed after it became trapped as glaciers of ice moved across the earth. Thats why fossils of ocean plants and animals can be found on land.
