Choose two of the ineffective listening styles (stage hogging, selective listening) and explain which two you use most often?
In what situations do you use each of these styles? (Consider the people involved, the time, subject, and your personal mood when determining situational variables.)
What are the consequences of using the listening styles you have just described?
Two of the most important ineffective listening skills that I use are selective listening and interrupting listening. Selective listening refers to choosing the information one needs to listen while keeping one’s attention somewhere. Interrupting listening refers to keep interrupting the speaker without allowing the speaker to complete the sentences thus, leading to misunderstanding.
Selective listening normally happens while I sit in the classroom listening to lectures. Whenever I listen to a topic that interests me, I would listen carefully and if I’m not interested in the subject, I wouldn’t listen actively. Interrupting listening happens while I communicate with my parents because I always intervene and justify my words. I would also intervene before understanding what they try to say thus, we would enter into conflicts and misunderstanding.
