Why have counselors and mental health programs placed so much emphasis on advocating for diversity and parity of services?
One of the most important reasons for placing so much emphasis on advocating for diversity and parity of services on counselors and mental health programs is to help them focused on the service they offer to humanity irrespective of race, color, wealth etc. This would help them gain a balanced state of mind where they would look for the human inside every person. The society is becoming more pluralistic and diverse thus people from different parts of the world come together for business, entertainment, jobs etc. thus, create an environment that is so complex and diverse. So, for the counselors and health programs, it’s an absolute necessary to understand the cultural differences among the population they serve. It would mean that one understands the importance of treating everyone equally and helping everyone without any discrimination. Knowing about the differences in culture would help a health care professional handle people differently that would help their clients adopt a treatment process that would best suit them.
