  1. You are scrolling through your newsfeed and see that your aunt has posted about ketogenic diets. She has shared that she wants to lose 15 pounds and has decided to try a ketogenic diet. She added that she “knows” it will help her because her daughter, who is an epileptic, was put on a ketogenic diet by her doctor—so it must be medically approved. What would you say to your aunt?

Answer #1

Answer :)

A ketogenic diet mainly consists of high-fats, very-low-carbohydrates with moderate-proteins. The dietary macronutrients are distributed into approximately 30% to 35% protein, 55% to 60% fat, and 5% to 10% carbohydrates. Precisely, in a 2000 kcal per day diet, the amount of carbohydrates is up to 20 to 50 g per day. Clinically, high-fat with very-low-carbohydrate diets such as the ketogenic diet has revealed that it is beneficial to weight loss. Moreover, studies show that dietary fat of the ketogenic diet does not cause obesity. However, a ketogenic diet may be prescribed or do for a minimum of 2 to 3 weeks and a maximum of 6 to 12 months. Under a ketogenic diet, close observing of renal functions is imperative, and the shift from a ketogenic diet to a standard diet must be slow and well-controlled. Therefore, the ketogenic diet is medically approved and can use to reduce weight.
