1.I would not personally prefer to work for an autocratic manager because autocratic leaders act in command and control fashion. They do not provide the decision making authority to the team members and always retains the authority with them. They always provide importance to tasks rather than people and do not accept the advice from anyone even if they go wrong. I would like to work under a manager who provides enough freedom for the employees and make them participate in decision making process. Hence it would difficult for me to adjust with Farook Singh’s autocratic management style.
2.The most rewarding aspect of working under autocratic manager is that the employees need not worry about taking authority and making wrong decisions. They can work as per the orders and need not spend their time and effort on developing new ideas. It is very helpful in highly stressful situations that require strong leadership because low level employees may be confused or afraid of taking decisions in such situations. It is also helpful in situation where the group lacks cohesion because the team members will perform their tasks and complete the project on time due to fear of punishment.
The challenging aspects of working with this manager include that this type of managers will not listen to subordinates even if their decisions are wrong. It is challenging for a creative mind to survive under this leadership because they discourage new ideas and also restrict the employees to a highly structured environment which do not provide room for fostering innovation.
3.If I am placed in a management position, the personal characteristics I need most to work as an effective manager includes interpersonal skills, decision making skills, delegation skills, controlling skills and motivation skills. I should develop better relationship with the employees by supporting them to fulfill their needs and also by participating them in the decision making process. I should delegate my authority to the team members to make them confident and capable of moving to the next levels of their career. I should also motivate them to develop creative ideas that help to achieve our goals. Meanwhile I should also ensure that they are completing their tasks on time within the guidelines.
