GLOBALIZATION: is the process of interaction and integration between people, companies and governments worldwide. It has grown due to advance in transportation and communication technology.
IMPACT ON URBANIZATION AND HEALTH: Several studies have been done on the impact of urbanization and health. These impact was associated with lower risk of undernutrition but has a higher risk on overweight in children. The other issues related to urbanization are lower fertility rate and chronic diseases. The impact on globalization has reduced these incidence to some extent but should be accomplished by an informed and reactive health policy.
PROS: The advantages of globalization a) reduce the rate of poverty by increasing the availabilty of employment b) decreases the risk of mortality and morbidity rate c) improves water and sanitation d) reduces industrial pollution and e) increases the availability on disposal of wastes.
CONS: a) it is highly expensive b) needs more space to lack of rubbish disposals c) needs more water and energy for sanitation d) needs more clinical facilities to reduce the mortality rate.
OPINION: According to me, globalization has a greater role in issues on urbanization and health. Globalization to some an extent has reduced the risk factors on urbanization and increases awareness based on the problems in urban countries. Many effective steps have been taken like proper disposal of wastes and improved sanitation facilities but cities are at the beginning of their development to the mitigation of urban environmental impacts. For an effective globalization, the governance should understand the lack of factors and should understand how to tackles the environment threats to human health. Effective policy also helps to improve the effectiveness on urbanization and health on globalization.
