Answer #1

Biosynthetic pathway: To produce product(s) through different intermediates from a precursor by using different enzyes in each intermediate step.

Mutation blocks the biosynthetic pathway as it is unable to produce the enzyme required in the paathway. Compounds used in the earliest(precursor) of the pathway allow the growth of fewest mutants, compound found in last support almost every mutants growth.

You are studying the live biosynthetic pathway in bread mold that produces a protein necessary for life. Your research group has identified three genes believed to function in the live pathway and has created mutant lines for each: die-21, die-18, and die-1. You have been growing the mutant strains and a wild-type strain on deficient media that does not contain all four of the compounds involved in the live pathway: A, B, C, and D. To determine the order of...

The genetic code is considered degenerate because most amino acids are encoded by at least two different codons. Some researchers have hypothesized that during evolution the genetic code has been optimized for its intended use in different organisms. Reseachers can study this by examining the relationship between the frequency with which an amino acid appears in all the proteins in an organism and the total number of codons for an amino acid. An optimized organism would use amino acids in...
