A shared derived character is made up of two words: ' shared + derived'. Shared character is that character which is common in two lineagss. Derived character is defined as the character which is evolved in the lineage and leads to formation of clade. Which results in deviated from other taxons. That's why shared derived character are used to represent taxons group in a clade. And this clade is known as synapomorphy.
