2. Describe how an organism living in a pond might alter its membranes in response to a change in seasons. The organism will adapt from summer to winter by making changes to its membrane chemistry. List and describe at least 2 changes

The membrane of the organism is made up of phospholipid and cholesterol. At low temperatures, phospholipids will be rigid and fluid at high temperatures. Cholesterol at low temperatures increases fluidity and decreases fluidity at high temperatures. During summer, the composition of cholesterol will be low to maintain fluidity and during winter phospholipid composition will be low.
