A vertical piston-cylinder contains 0.2 kg of steam initially at an absolute pressure of 200 kPa and a temperature of 300°C. The area of the piston is 10 cm2, and the weight of the piston is 100 N. The piston cylinder is then laid on its side, and the piston is free to move. When the piston reaches its final position, the temperature has decreased to 200°C.

Find The initial volume of the steam in the piston-cylinder, The final pressure in the piston-cylinder, and The volume of the steam in the cylinder changes by?

A piston –cylinder device initially contains 0.2 kg of steam at 1400 kPa and 350C. The steam is then cooled at constant pressure until it is at 200C. (a) Determine the volume change of the cylinder during this process using the compressibility factor. (b) Compare the result in part (a) to that obtained using actual property values.

A piston-cylinder device initially contains steam at 200 kPa, 250°C, and 0.4 m3. At this state, a linear spring is touching the piston, but exerts no force on it. Heat is now slowly transferred to the steam, causing the pressure and the volume to rise to 300 kPa and 0.7 m3, respectively. Show the process on a P-v diagram with respect to saturation lines and determine the following: a. The final temperature b. The work done by the steam c....
