The level of self esteem changes in middle childhood and this can increase or decrease based upon one's psychological traits and personality. This is bound to increase or decrease based upon whether he/she has been given enough appreciation and autonomy to interact with their Environment and explore the personalities of people around them. It is based upon successful completion of social and emotional stages that they go through to reach middle childhood.

Emotional self regulation improves in middle childhood as they develop the ability to think in a manner that helps them form their own opinions. They are able to percieve things in their own way, which helps them regulate their emotions. Emotional regulation and assertive allow an individual to develop a sense of self esteem in a way that ensures awareness of the Environment.
