A nurse assistant is one who works under the supervision of a Nurse. They are supposed to os the most basic cares like meeting the personal hygien of the patient, assisting in feeding, mobilization, checking vitals,etc.,They are not supposed and responsible to a work which is not in their job responsibilities. If they are guided and have an experience then the nurse can decide whether to provide the particular work or not strictly following the hospital's polices and protocols. A nurse assistant can work even till the third trimester as per the Pregnancy Discrimination Act in US.They cannot be fired if they are pregnant under this reason by the management. As they are eligible for 12 weeks maternity leave as per the FMLA .In these case the nurse assistant can sue the organization for a wrong termination to protect their dignity, modesty and career under state and local laws.
