Highlight your personal understanding of 4 elements of the nursing metaparadigm; the human being, health, nursing and the environment. Explain the interrelationship of these concepts and how your understanding of these 4 elements impacts your practice. Provide an example specific to your practice.
compare or contrast your philosophy of nursing from the beginning of the program to your current perspective. Address at least 2 elements of the previous philosophy by discussing any changes and the factors that influenced the change. If no change, still identify 2 elements of your previous philosophy and compare it to now. Then for each element highlighted discuss how an idea or concept covered within the program fits within your philosophy. Briefly explain how this change or reinforcement impacts your practice.
Provide a conclusion for your paper. Include a brief summation of your theoretical influences, conceptualization of nursing, and the evolution of your personal philosophy. Tie the paper and ideas together with overarching concept or future goal related to personal philosophy.
Nursing a profession follows certain written statements stating nurses beliefs,values,norma and ethical behavior of what is right and wrong related to patient care is called as philosophy of nursing. Metaparadigm consists of set of ideas/concepts or theories that guides profession to function. In nursing it consists of 4 set of components that addresses patient as a whole component, health of the patient,environment, and the list of nursing responsibilities performed by nurses to promote wellbeing of the patient.
According to various author in nursing , person ,health,environment and nursing are key elements in nursing process. Treating a patient as a whole by including mind,body,soul component helps in quicker healing of the patient.
The metaparadigm patient focussed on the person or individual who is receiving care. It includes person's personal values,spiritual beliefs, cultural components, family,socio economic status.While rendering nursing care nurses must consider individual belief,customs,values at the time of planning nursing care. Neglecting or omitting any of the one component will delay the healing process.
The metaparadigm health a primary factor indicating quality and wellness of an individual. Individual health can be promoted through caring,maintaining hygiene. A balance in person's physical,cognitive and spiritual self is needed to promote healing process. Metaparadigm environment consists of two factors internal and external factors. Nurses adheres to the strict aseptic techniques like hand washing, cleaning patient environment helps in reducing infections among patients. A home like environment helps in easy cure of disease. Noise levels must be under control as it may increases stress among the patients. Lighting an another important component helps to protect patient from stress and anxiety. Noise free environment and adequate lighting facilitates early curing of diseases.
Nursing component focuses on the establishment of healthy relationships with the patient. Nurses should provide safe and comfortable environment to the patient. Nurses must be a leader and teacher to help patient to understand the disease process, healthy diet,positive lifestyle factors,healing process.Critical thinking and prudent decision making on patient care helps nurses to stand ahead in the nursing profession.
