i. What phenomenon in genetic coding does “wobble” refer to? Give a brief description.
ii. Explain the benefit of using thymine in DNA instead of uracil. Thymine has greater resistance to photochemical mutation, making the genetic message more stable.
(i) The 'wobble' refers to the particular position in a genetic codon. The wobble position is the third nucleotide in a triplet codon. There is a set of base pairing rules at the third nucleotide of the genetic codon, which enables a small number of tRNA molecules to identify multiple codons. This was explained by Francis Crick in 1966 through the "Wobble hypothesis". It states that 'the third base in a triplet codon of mRNA can undergo non - Watson - Crick base pairing with the first base of a tRNA anticodon'. Therefore one tRNA molecule can recognize and attach to more than one genetic codon. The Wobble base pairing is necessary in RNA secondary structure and for the proper translation of the genetic codon.

(ii) In DNA thymine is more suitable than uracil in many aspects. In DNA, cytosine undergoes chemical degradation and produces uracil. This conversion happens by the deamination of cytosine. This deamination is potentially mutagenic. In this case the normal base thymine detects and repairs this mutations more efficiently. But in RNA uracil is present instead of thymine. This is because uracil is energetically less expensive to produce than thymine. Thus uracil is more suitable for RNA, where quantity is given more importance than the lifespan. Whereas, thymine is used in DNA to enhance the fidelity (accuracy) of the genetic information.

What are the three functional groups that comprise a nucleotide? What do nucleotides have in common with amino acids or simple sugars? When the structure of DNA was first elucidated, many biologists quickly saw how this structure explained the passage of information from one generation to another. How does the structure of DNA explain generation-to-generation flow of information? In other words, give a brief description of the structure of DNA and tell how this structure allows for replication. Which of...
Part I— Just Bad Luck? Brrrring! Brrrring! Jane checked the caller ID on her phone. “Sam! Great!” she thought. It was always nice to get a call from her older brother. But a little twinge of worry tugged at her. It was just a couple of weeks ago that he had mentioned making an appointment with his doctor about some abdominal pain he had been having. “Hi Sam! It’s great to hear from you,” Jane answered. “Hi Jane. Well I...
explain 1 or 2 molecular details in how epigenetics may allow
melanoma cells to outsmart BRAF inhibitors
**This is for a genetics course
Seope: This science commentary claims that epigeneties plays a role in cancer cells becoming therapy-resistant. The language used is generalized for the non-scientist and does not include any molecular details, such as methylation of a specific nucleotide in an allele or modification of a specific histone tail amino acid. Your task (individually or in a group of...

What an Executive Summary Is
An executive summary is a specific type of document that does
two things: it summarizes a research article, and it offers
recommendations as to how information from the article can be
used.
Some long reports can contain an executive summary section, as
indicated in the Pearson handbook.
Write a 2 pahe Executive Summary
In business contexts, an executive summary is always written
for a specific purpose: to explain the information in the article
to a...
