How big is the gap between the rich and the poor in Colombia? What is the cause of this?
Ans. The Gap between the rich and poor in Colombia is humongous. The GINI index of Colombia was 52 in 2018 , which is very high. This means there is extreme disparity between the country's elites and those who die of malnutrition in Columbia each day. The country’s top 10% earners received 39% of the country’s income in 2017, according to the World Bank. Some of the cause for this are : Concentration of resources in fewer hands only , lack of government planning and implementation , long drawn internal war and conflicts in Colombia , corruption in government agencies , exploitation by the landowners etc.
